What is it?
PageTurners is
a literature-based competition for students in grades 3-12. Wayland-Cohocton Elementary participates in Chapter 1
(grades 3-6). We send teams from the Cohocton building to two competitions
each year. Two teams of six students per building prepare to
answer questions by reading the books on the Official List
of Titles, which is prepared by a committee of teachers and
librarians. Teams compete in a round-robin format with
nearby schools, and division winners advance to a
region-wide final tournament. Winning teams are recognized
with plaques. All participants receive certificates.
Students
participating in PageTurners may read up to 14 books each
semester, selected by a panel of teachers and library
specialists. Audio books and iPods are available through
Media Library at Genesee Valley BOCES. Students are
encouraged to participate in writing questions for
competitions. In theCohocton Elementary building we meet
every Tuesday afternoon from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday
mornings from 8 to 8:50 a.m.
We have LAB on Monday and Tuesday afternoons where students
are welcomed in the Library to listen to a book on one of
our 6 Ipods, take quizzes or read quitly and discuss our
books. If you have any questions, please feel free to
contact Mrs. Walker or Mrs. Gardiner by calling the Cohocton
Elementary Office at 384-5234 or by emailing Cherry Walker (cwalker@wccsk12.org)
or Mrs. Gardiner (agardiner@wccsk12.org). |
