January - Principal for a Day

2nd Grader Is “Principal for a Day!”

Second grader, Blake Zastawrny took over for Miss Becker at Cohocton Elementary School as “Principal for the Day” as a way to celebrate the hard work and success he put into his computer based “Math Facts in a Flash” program!

During his time as principal, Blake started the day by assisting Superintendent Mike Wetherbee with a morning walk through the building, stopping to say “good morning” to every single class of students! He then completed 3 minute walk troughs' in each classroom, with “golden tickets” in hand, distributing them to students he found to be responsible, respectful, cooperative, safe and kind!

By the time Blake returned to his office, he had been bombarded with 5 e-mails from teachers who were seeking his advice and problem solving skills! He thought about going immediately and helping those teachers but then stopped and reminded Miss Becker…”um…isn’t it snack time?”

After being rejuvenated by his fruit snacks and juice, Blake headed to the copier to make copies of the agenda that would be used in the afternoon faculty meeting, chose the students that would be recognized in next week’s “Rising Stars Mystery Breakfast” and made a few announcements over the loud speaker!  He had a working lunch…as he helped two third grade students settle a dispute (in between bites of his bologna sandwich.)

The day ended with Blake leading dismissal, walkie-talkie in hand, saying “good bye” proudly to each of his fantastic Cohocton Elementary students. Then he skipped off to his own bus, ready for home, exhausted from all of his hard work being “Principal for a Day.”
