What is Star Behavior?

Dear Cohocton Elementary Families,

You may have heard your children use terms like “Star Behavior” or “Level 1 Voice” after coming home from school.  We hope this sheet will give you some more information about what those terms mean.

Star Behavior refers to our expectations of all members of our school community.  We expect our students and staff to:

  • Be Responsible

  • Be Respectful

  • Be Cooperative

  • Be Safe

  • Be Kind

To celebrate our school community, each student will be chosen once during the year to participate in a “Fun Friday Snack and Mystery Guest.”  This celebration will include a snack, time spent with a Mystery Guest from our school or community who will talk about the job they do and how Star Behavior is important as an adult.  A photo of the group will displayed in the school, on our website and in our newsletter each month. As students are picked, they will be asked to complete a biography page and get their picture taken. Their picture will be featured on our “Wall of Stars” for the week!

Students will be recognized for Star Behavior on an individual basis throughout the year.  One way we do this is by giving out Golden Tickets. When an adult sees a student doing something wonderful that demonstrates amazing Star Behavior, they may give the student a ticket.  Half of the ticket is sent home so you can share the success with your child and the other half will be posted on display so we can see our level of Star Behavior rise.

Please look over the information on our Star Behavior expectations and appropriate voice levels.  We have found this system helpful in teaching students our expectations for their behavior in all settings so that they may grow positively in the areas of self-image, social skills development and behavior.
