Library Home

Check out Policies for Library books

Note: Accelerated readers have a separate policy

The library is open from 8:00 until 3:45 daily

Students/Faculty/Staff may exchange books on a daily basis

Faculty/Staff:

  • May check out unlimited number of books for three months

  • May Check out AV/Computer Equipment- see policies

Students:

   Fourth/Third:

  • May check out two items for two weeks.

  • Videos for overnight. Videos do not go out on weekends or breaks.

  • The first item must be a book of their reading ability.

  • The second is of their choice and maybe a video.

  • They may not take a video, non-reading book (ex. drawing books), or books to difficult for their reading level.

  • If they have a library or classroom assignment, for which they need library resources, they may select a third book.

     Second Grade:

  • May check out two items for one week.

  • No videos

  • The first book must be at their reading ability

  • The second book will be of choice

  • If given a library or classroom assignment, they may choose a third book.

   Pre K,Knd,and 1st:

  • Must receive permission from parent/guardian

  • May check out one book for one week.

  Home School/Parents/Substitutes:

  • A limit of five books for two weeks

  • Need address and telephone number

  • Mail notices as soon as overdue

  • Librarian may restrict selection, if needed for classrooms

Accelerated Readers(AR):

  • All students may select one AR book. This is in addition to their library books. AR books will have the same circulation limits: one week for grades K-2, two weeks for 3-4. If a student has an overdue library book, we may restrict their use of AR books.

Overdue, Damaged, and Lost Books:

  • A student will be restricted from taking out a library book if they have an overdue, damaged or a lost book.

  • Students will not be able to check out any materials, including books for assignments, until they return or pay for the book.

  • This will carry over from year to year, including when they enter Middle School.

  • Students, who have overdue/lost/damaged books, may use books and materials in the library or in their classroom but may not take books or materials home.

  • Prompt notices must be sent to students and parents.

  • Parents will be given the option of partial payment.

  • Once the book is returned or paid for, the student may resume taking out books.

  • If a student returns a book that has been paid for, the amount paid will be refunded.

  • When a student pays for a damaged book, they may have the book.

  • The cost for damaged and lost books will be based on replacement cost.

Book Selection:

Follows District policy for text and library books.

  • Policy 8320 dated 1995 Selection of Library and Audiovisual Materials

  • Policy 8310 dated 1995 Purposes of Instructional Materials

  • Policy 8311 dated 1995 Selection of Controversial Instructional Material

Student's Computer Use:

Once trained on the catalog usually at third grade, the students may independently use the library catalog to locate books. Students may only use CD's and websites for research under guidance of a staff member.

Library Discipline:

Same as Elementary discipline procedures.
