"Education is invaluable. As a school system it is our responsibility to give students the skills to realize its importance and to set their education as a priority in their own lives. "

Amy Broughton, HS Dean of Students

Mrs. Broughton is entering her third year as the WCCS High School Dean of Students. Previously she was employed with Steuben County Probation for close to eight years and the Northaven Non-Secure Detention Facility. As the dean of students, Mrs. Broughton assists the administration in developing and enforcing student discipline policies and emergency and safety plans. She is also responsible for the general supervision of the students and management of bus disciplinary issues. Mrs. Broughton also oversees in-school and post-school detention programs and students during after-school hours.

“I love the contact I have with the students,” said Broughton. “Everything is about helping to guide them in making good decisions for themselves and their futures.”

Mrs. Broughton has carefully planned her focus for the year to include improving student accountability. Her expectation is to help kids accept responsibility for their own behaviors, both in and out of the school setting.

“I would like to promote a higher level of tolerance and respect among students,” said Broughton. “In addition, I would like to help students recognize that part of becoming a good citizen, and an adult, revolves around the choices they make in their everyday lives.”

Mrs. Broughton has been married for 11 years and has two children, seven-year-old Dylan and five-year-old Chelsea with whom she spends all of her time. She is a native of Canaseraga and currently serves on the Board of Education in that district. Mrs. Broughton earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology from Alfred University and will be returning to school in 2004 to pursue a Master’s degree.
