"Teamwork is essential for us to be able to provide a successful high school career for our students. Teachers, students, parents and the community working together as a team, will enable us to give everyone a great opportunity to be successful in school, which will lead to being successful in life.  It is our job to ensure that each child receives an opportunity to be successful."

William Whyte, HS Principal

Mr. Whyte is excited to be starting his fourth year as high school principal. He came to Wayland with a total of seven years of administrative experience as an Assistant Principal at both Victor High School and Monroe #1 BOCES. For five years he was a Criminal Justice teacher with BOCES and spent the prior eight years at the New York State Division of Youth at Oatka residential facility teaching architectural/mechanical drawing and carpentry. Mr. Whyte is proud of the four years he spent serving our country in the United States Marine Corps and also served one year as a police officer.

“I thoroughly enjoy working with and getting to know our students. I know they will make ‘mistakes’, we all do, the hope is that they learn from them,” said Whyte. “Everyone is unique and enjoyable in their own special way. I think of myself as a part of a very special staff that is trying our best to educate the young men and women of our community.”

Mr. Whyte and his wife Sheri have two grown sons and enjoy motorcycling together. Mr. Whyte is the proud owner of a 28-year-old 1975 GL1000 that he has rebuilt and when there’s time, he does enjoy an occasional game of golf. Mr. Whyte holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the Rochester Institute of Technology and a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from SUNY Brockport.

This year, Mr. Whyte, along with the high school staff, will continue to analyze the results of the English Language Arts assessments with the goal of developing an action plan to improve student achievement. Since his arrival, Mr. Whyte has worked diligently at improving the students’ sense of school pride by trying to create an environment that is a special place for every student. He continues to work toward that goal this year.
