Overview

Culture is constantly evolving as a result of changes in environment.  When new cultures are introduced to one another, ideas and customs are shared, causing both positive and negative impacts on both cultures.  For this unit, you will be exposed to several different works that exhibit some of the positive and negative impacts that occurred as a result of European exploration, on both the Old and New Worlds (Europe and the Americas).  After you read these works, you will write an essay in which you discuss the positive and negative impacts of integration, using evidence found in two of the works you read (your choice, from either/both English or/and History) and your knowledge of the subject for support.

This assignment may be counted in both US History and English classes, depending on who you have as a teacher.
