Denise Dzikowski, Director of Special Education 

As the Director of Special Education, Mrs. Dzikowski must work to stay ahead of the numerous demands required by State and Federal government agencies. With the re-authorization of the federal IDEA legislation as well as NYS Commissioner’s Part 200 Regulations, there are many new challenges to meet. In addition to writing several grants that provide significant amounts of money to the district, she supervises all staff providing services to students receiving special education opportunities. She is responsible for writing and reviewing Individual Education Plans and providing the leadership and direction for all aspects of these plans. Mrs. Dzikowski also maintains the appropriate personnel for mandated CSE/CPSE meetings and conducts over 500 of these meetings a year.


Mrs. Dzikowski earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary and Special Education from SUNY Geneseo and a Master’s Degree in Education from Cambridge. She completed another Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Supervision with George Washington University and certified in New York State for as a School District Administrator, and School Administrator and Supervisor.


Prior to coming to Wayland – Cohocton in 2006, her experience includes teaching at the elementary level as well as several years as a Special Education teacher at the middle and high school grade levels. She spent four years as CSE/CPSE Chairperson, 504 Administrator, and Coordinator of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment for the Avoca Central School District.
