Classroom Etiquette and Expectations

Here I have included a list of supplies you will need for class, an overview of classroom expectations and a description of how you will be graded this year in Spanish class.

For language class each day, you will need one three-ring binder, loose-leaf paper, three dividers, a writing utensil and your agenda.  You will need to divide your binder into three sections:  Vocabulary, Grammar and Culture.

This year, you will be learning about the language and culture of the people living in countries where the Spanish language is spoken.  Seventh grade Spanish class is the first of a two-year middle school language program.  At the end of eighth grade, you will take the Foreign Language Proficiency Exam to earn one credit for high school.

Throughout this year, together we will work towards the following goals

1.         Learning to listen to, speak in, read in and write in the Spanish language.

2.        Having an appreciation for the richness of culture and diversity of people throughout the Spanish– speaking world.

3.        Being people and students of character…

Listen carefully without interrupting.
Value other people’s ideas.
Critique constructively, not destructively.
Ask before borrowing anything.
Care about others’ feelings.
Accept responsibility for your own learning.
Use all your resources.
Ask for help.
Practice.
Study.
Work each day.
Be organized.
Bring all necessary materials.
Set goals.
Meet deadlines.

This year, your grade will be the average of:

  • Homework:  expect at least one written assignment per week in addition to studying vocabulary each night for at least 10 minutes.

  • Quizzes and Tests:  expect at least one per unit of study.

  • Projects:  expect one project per large unit of study.

  • Oral grades:  expect to complete at least one individual conversation in Spanish with your teacher sometime during each unit you study.

7th Grade Project Policy

Projects are long term assignments that are more comprehensive in scope.  Students are usually given four or more days to complete projects.  These are generally weighted more than other assignments.

  • Projects are due at the beginning of class.

  • A project handed in by 13th period the next day will be accepted with a 20% penalty.  Each school day thereafter, the student will continue to lose an additional 20%.  After 5 days, the project grade becomes a zero that may not be made up.

  • If a student is absent on the day a project is due, the project will be due the first day back to school.  Long term absences will be handled on an individual basis.

  • Not turning in a project at the beginning of class will affect Regal Eagle.
