  1. Individual Experimentation

Experiment 1: Try recording your own voice and adding a sound effect.

Experiment 2: Try recording your own voice and changing the pitch or speed.

  2. Posting to your website and/or other host sites.

Posting to your own website is similar to posting any file.  You simply save the MP3 file to your website, then hyperlink the text to that file.  Then, when someone clicks on the link, it will play your MP3 file.

If you do not have a website, consider creating one.  They are not as difficult as they seem.  They are no more difficult that creating a Word document.

Or, if you would rather, there are several other websites which will host your content for you.

One such website is the WXXI website at http://www.wxxi.org/education/k12/ondemand.html

It hosts digital video, audio, images, and podcasts.  But first you have to create an account, using our school passcode.  See handout or Mr. Allen for the code.

After that, the process is as simple as sending an email with an attachment.  Just click on the Podcasts tab at the top and then click on "Publish a Podcast" and fill out the information.

Then "Save" and a page will come up that will allow you to "Add an Episode".  Here you must describe the specific podcast you are creating, and then upload it.  You, and anyone else who visits the site, will then be able to search for it, listen to it, and download it onto their computer.

For a complete understanding of how to use this website, see "How do I publish a podcast" at http://www.powermediaplus.com/training/trainingFlash.asp?type=demo&id=37

  3. Downloading a podcast and using podcatchers

From one's own website, it is easy to download a podcast.  A student, for example, would simply right-click on the hyperlinked text and "Save Target As" and he/she can save the MP3 to his/her computer.

It is the same process from other websites, but for those who would like to subscribe to weekly episodes, you may set up an RSS feed, using one of the popular "podcatchers".  Here are a few of the free ones:

http://www.jpodder.com/

http://www.gpodder.org/

http://www.podcastready.com/

www.apple.com/itunes/

These will allow you to "catch" podcasts whenever a new one is posted to the web, making your favorite podcasts available to you to download to your MP3 player.  Of course, many of these podcasts are blocked by Bess, our school's website filter.

  1. Applications in the classroom/ virtual classroom.

  • Textbooks to Audiobooks
  • Special Education (tests read)
