Major Literary Works:
Focus
The primary focus of this course will be on the development
of writing skills. Students should prepare themselves for a year of
getting acquainted with the writing process (prewriting, drafting, revising,
editing, publishing) through repeated writing assignments.
Guiding Assumption
All students can learn to write, for a variety of purposes,
with clarity and style.
Components
- Writing Journals—informal
writing used for reflection, practice, and preparation.
- Dialog Journals—informal
writing and response done in pairs.
- Formal Papers—includes early
drafts and final drafts of assigned work.
- Required Readings—may be done
in class or for homework.
- Quizzes, Tests, Exams—will be
given periodically, at the end of units, at midterm, and the end of the
year.
