Focus

The primary focus of this course will be on the development of writing skills.  Students should prepare themselves for a year of getting acquainted with the writing process (prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, publishing) through repeated writing assignments.

Guiding Assumption

All students can learn to write, for a variety of purposes, with clarity and style.

Components

  • Writing Journals—informal writing used for reflection, practice, and preparation.
  • Dialog Journals—informal writing and response done in pairs.
  • Formal Papers—includes early drafts and final drafts of assigned work.
  • Required Readings—may be done in class or for homework.
  • Quizzes, Tests, Exams—will be given periodically, at the end of units, at midterm, and the end of the year.
