iPads in Education

iPad Uses

The iPads can be used in high school classes in numerous ways.  This list is not meant to be exhaustive:

• to serve as eBook readers (iPads can hold hundreds of books, including textbooks).  This includes the use of the highlighting and annotation functions as aids in the process of text analysis, research, and the development of critical thinking skills. 

• to listen to audiobooks

• to access the internet or to access library databases for research or to supplement course content

• to be used for communication via email, and for writing purposes like educationally-oriented social networking sites like Edmodo, blogs, and wikis

• to listen to audio and watch video clips that supplement course content

• to set up and view RSS feeds for weekly readings

• to type and edit online content

• to dictate verbal notes (could be especially useful for special education students, though it requires special apps)

• to poll and/or quiz students for feedback and data collection
