Back to Middle School

"Educate the student as a whole person. I believe that there are many lessons to be learned both in and outside the classroom."

Matthew Flowers, Middle School Assistant Principal

Mr. Flowers began his first year of service with Wayland-Cohocton in the summer of 2004. His primary responsibility was working with Middle School kids including everything from student discipline, character education, and with a variety of student activities, groups and organizations. It doesn’t stop there. Mr. Flowers also provides the administrative support and leadership for many support staff including aides, assistants and monitors. Mr. Flowers recently served as the Interim Principal at Cohocton Elementary School but now is back at the Middle School as Assistant Principal.

“I enjoy working with young people in challenging situations because there is always the potential for growth and development,” said Flowers. “Having the opportunity to have a positive impact on the lives of so many young people is an enormous responsibility but one that can be extremely rewarding.”

Before joining the WCCS team, Mr. Flowers spent three years as the Dean of Students at Perry Central School and three years with the Wyoming County Probation Department. He has earned a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology from SUNY Buffalo, a Master’s Degree in Education from Alfred University and  an Educational Administration Certificate from Canisius College.

Mr. Flowers is an avid sports fan. You’ll hear him cheering on the Buffalo Bills and the Syracuse Orangemen. When he’s not supporting his favorite teams, he loves to travel.

Mr. Flowers is glad to be a member of the WCCS Administrative team and will work diligently to foster a safe and healthy learning environment within the school community.
