FOR JANUARY 1

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Hopefully the break for winter recess has left families rested and ready to jump back into the school schedule. Kudos to all of the students, directors and helped that pulled off a beautiful winter concert series. Each year the programs seem to build and you never know what you might see or hear at these wonderful performances. From the youngster, to the oldest, all of the students shined.

Much giving and sharing took place prior to the holidays and it was certainly evident what a generous community the Wayland-Cohocton District is part of. Whether giving to peers or friends, organizations or people in need, the children and adults of the community certainly dug deep – even in these economic times – to reach out to their neighbors. What a wonderful lesson for WC students to learn.

Please don’t forget that the 9th grade parent meeting for current 8th grade families is Wed., January 6. If you have questions about this meeting, please contact the School Counseling Office. This is an important meeting to help families familiarize themselves with the expectations, programs and scheduling options at the high school level. Help your student get off on the right foot next year and attend this meeting.

A Board of Education meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 13at 7 pm in the LGI. Please note this is a change in the day of the week from the typical Monday meeting. This change will be for this meeting only in January. The second meeting will be held Monday, January 25 at 7 pm in the LGI.

Other dates to know: There is a roller skating party for students in prekindergarten through fourth grades on Monday, January 11. There is no school on Monday, January 18 as we pause to recognize Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

High School students may be occupied with Regents exams on January 23, 27, 28 and 29. Please check with your student or the high school office for scheduling information. The information should be posted on the school website by mid-January. The end of the 20 weeks is Friday, January 29, marking the halfway point for the school year. Elementary report cards are scheduled to go home on Tuesday, January 26.
