Prerequisites: English 11/English 11 Accelerated
Students will write six to eight, 2-3 page compositions as well as write several exams, and make oral presentations to the class. Students will write an informative/persuasive MLA documented research paper of 6-8 pages (Standard 3). Students must complete the paper according to WCCS standards. Basic rhetorical principles, including distinctions between subjective and objective language and the elements of critical thinking are used to de- velop an overview of six aims of discourse: informative, scientific, literary, exploratory, expressive, and persuasive writing.
This course is an ACE (Accelerated College Enrollment) course through Corning Community College.
ACE is a concurrent enrollment program in which high school students take college courses at their high school and earn college credit through Corning Community College (CCC) or Genesee Community College (GCC). All courses are taught at the student's high school by high school faculty who have the appropriate degree and credentials required by CCC and GCC to be approved as adjunct instructors.
ENGL 1010: College Composition I - Essay writing designed to sharpen the student's perceptions of the world through the study and use of non-fiction writings and to facilitate communications with correctness, clarity, unity, organization, and depth. Assignments include expository writing, argumentation, and research techniques. Meets General Education requirement in Basic Communication.
Prerequisites: An 85% of better on the Comprehensive English Regents Exam or take the Reading and Writing Placement Test
