The Grad Bash Committee, chaired by Stephanie Howes, announced to Wayland-Cohocton senior class families that it has received approval from the Steuben County Health Department to hold an outdoor event for the senior class. At its original date, the Friday night before graduation, June 26, a celebration will be held for members of the senior class at the Ellsworth “Ozzie” Tripp Cohocton Sports Complex in Cohocton.

“Please remember that this is a community sponsored event to celebrate our seniors and provide them with a little bit of WC tradition at a difficult time,” said Howes. "Keep in mind that this event will be different from previous years’ activities due to the time constraints, outdoor venue and COVID-19 health and safety concerns and guidelines that the committee must work within. I can assure you that food, entertainment and prizes will be provided to all seniors in attendance.”

Current health safety requirements applicable to the event include:

  • If you are sick, not feeling well or have a fever - stay home.

  • Follow social distancing guidelines by maintaining six feet of spacing

  • All in attendance must wear a mask unless eating

  • Hand sanitizing stations will be set up through the complex for easy access

  • No groups larger than 10 people may congregate in one area

  • Two sets of bathrooms will be open for hand washing with soap and water

The Grad Bash committee also asks that:

  • If you are uncomfortable with such gatherings, you do not attend

  • If you are unwilling to follow the necessary rules, you do not attend

  • If you are are attending you make the most of the fun being provided and enjoy yourselves

The committee is working hard with vendors to make certain there are a number of safe activities for the event which will run from 7 to 11 p.m. The Sports Complex Board has graciously and quickly approved the use of the site which allowed the committee to start planning with the short timeline. Many organizations and businesses had donated toward Grad Bash for the 2020 Senior Class prior to the school closure and those funds are being utilized to host the event. The committee is very appreciative of those early donations which are making it possible to get immediately to work on planning the event.

Families have been provided necessary paperwork via email which must be returned on Friday, June 19 when students pick up their caps and gowns at the field house. Grad Bash is free of charge. The event is rain or shine so come dressed for the appropriate weather forecast. If you have questions you can email gradbash@wccsk12 or telephone Stephanie Howes at 585-734-2749. Thank you to everyone that has already stepped up to make this a fun night for the Class -of 2020 by providing them some much-deserved time together before graduation.
