Wayland-Cohocton Central School District is pleased to announce we will be offering the STELLAR Extended School Day Program this year for both students in the Elementary School, grades 2-4 and in Middle School, grades 5-8. STELLAR is a project based learning after school program providing students with opportunities in Science, Teamwork, Engineering, Literacy, Leadership, Arts and Recreation. Together, kids and teachers discover, discuss, and investigate topics while also receiving targeted tutoring in reading/ELA. This program will provide innovative educational programs and high quality instruction in the following areas:
- Academic Support and Tutoring - small group, data-driven targeted tutoring in ELA.
- Project-Based Learning - collaboration with the Boston Museum of Science to provide STEM-based learning opportunities that facilitate student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking.
- Enrichment Activities - opportunities for student health and wellness, specifically immersing students in the arts to educate the whole child. Enrichment activities such as painting, crafting, knitting, vocal music, drama, etc.
Here is some important information:
There is no charge for the program.
The STELLAR extended school day program dates are October 11, 2022 – March 30, 2023.
Students would attend 3 days per week
The program will operate on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:30 - 5:30 pm.
Students will receive fun and engaging project-based learning activities, enriching opportunities, and targeted ELA tutoring/instruction
During program hours, students will be provided with a healthy snack.
Family Nights will be held twice to share the experiences of the students.
The program is limited to fifty-two students (52 elementary and 52 middle school students) Priority will be given on a first come, first served basis.
Busing is available on the 5:40 sports bus run.
This program is for students who are enrolled in the Wayland-Cohocton Central School District.
Application will be available in the Elementary and the Middle School offices through Monday, 10/3/22. Please submit your completed applications to the ES and/or the MS Office (attention Becky Lambert) by Monday, October 3rd, or sooner if possible.
Please consider enrolling your child so that he/she may join us in exploring interesting topics and answering questions about the world in which we live. We look forward to a program of extended learning and extended fun!
