Miss Kreppel is hosting a Solar Eclipse Science Club on Tuesdays for students to prep for the big event. Activities are meant to help students understand the event and have a thorough understanding of what is happening, while also having fun. Each week there is a story, experiment and arts and crafts - plus, just getting together to talk science is super cool!
ALL DRESSED UP Formal Closet: Did you know that Wayland-Cohocton has a prom closet? Years ago, then student Mackenzie Curtin started the closet as a project collecting formal dresses, long and short dresses. The closet has also had a few donations of suit pants and jackets for the guys. The closet also has a few pairs of shoes that can also be borrowed. Items can be donated to the closet at any time. Students can borrow from the closet and are asked to contribute a $20 fee for the cleaning of gowns after use. Dresses are to be returned after use. They are then dry-cleaned and safely stored for the next use. The closet is maintained by Mrs. Curtin and students in the National Honor Society.
If you are interested in donating a gown or funds toward having the gowns cleaned, please contact Michelle Curtin at mcurtin@wccsk12.org. If a student is interested in borrowing a gown, they should reach out to Mrs. Curtin in the high school science wing at school.
Prom season is here! Class Advisor Mrs. York has been busy selling prom tickets this morning in the high school!
Mrs. Bauman’s Studio in Art students are highly focused while working on their projects. Studio is an introductory course that teaches the fundamentals of drawing and design while providing the opportunity to explore many different art media. Students engage in various class projects that may include drawing, printing, ceramics and painting. Wayland-Cohocton is celebrating National Youth Art Month and will post pictures of students and their creative endeavors throughout March.
If you are a family interested in enrolling your child in prekindergarten or kindergarten for the 2024-2025 school year and are not currently enrolled in a prekindergarten program, please register with the District as soon as possible. Wayland-Cohocton High School hosted a College and Career Fair on Wednesday night in the Field House. There were 33 vendors in attendance from colleges, career fields and the military. About 50 students and four past graduates and many family members attended the event.
WCCS Update (March 1st): After clearing a portion of the building that was slated to be used for the All-County Music Festival today, Wayland-Cohocton is continuing with that scheduled event. Thank you.
Thank you to everyone for your patience this morning during the electrical issues at Wayland-Cohocton. Power was restored, however the brown out did cause some damage to the building necessitating the canceling of classes. We appreciate your understanding. Thank you and have a good weekend.
After consulting with the power company, unfortunately they cannot give us a time frame as to when power will be restored and as a result we are calling an emergency day. Middle school students will be given breakfast and then Middle and high Students will be released to the buses at 8:30 am. If you would prefer to pick up your student please come to the middle school or high school office to pick up your student. If your middle school child should not be dropped off at home, please contact the middle school office as soon as possible. There will be no elementary or prekindergarten classes today either.
Wayland-Cohocton Middle School students are entering the building. Fifth and sixth grade will go to the cafeteria and seventh and eighth grade will go to the gymnasium. Buses have not gone out for the elementary school. We will continue to update you as we have more informstion regarding elementary school.
Further clarification on power issues at WC Wayland Campus: Wayland-Cohocton High School is currently fully operational on a generator and students will be entering the school. The Middle School will be held on buses for a short time while the situation is reviewed. Information will be forthcoming regarding Elementary School.
Wayland-Cohocton Central School is currently without power. The district suspects it to be a brown out and will be holding students on the buses for a while we try to rectify the situation. We will update you further when we know more.
Wayland-Chocton Bus #53 is running about 20 minutes late.
The High School National Honor Society is sponsoring a free Multiball Tournament on Tuesday, March 5th from 4 to 7 p.m. in the High School Field House. The event is free and for high school students. Please sign up in Mrs. Owens' and Mrs. Gibbs' rooms. If you don't want to play, come and cheer on your peers!
The WC High School PageTurners team came from behind to take first place in its most recent competition! This victory allowed the team to advance to regionals in a few weeks. Congratulations!
Wayland-Cohocton Central School hosted the high school PageTurners competition today, Friday, February 29th in the Performing Arts Center. This is the second competition this year for these students. Students are quizzed on literature they have read from a reading list.
