
Wayland-Cohocton Drama Club will present Emma! A Pop Musical by Eric Price on Thursday and Friday, April 24th and 25th at 7 pm, and Saturday, April 26th at 2 pm. Admission at the Performing Arts Center will be $5 at the door. There will be no advance sale tickets.
Emma! A Pop Musical is a jukebox musical based on Jane Austen's novel Emma. The musical is set in a modern prep school and features hit songs by female artists. Emma, a senior at Highbury Prep, is certain she knows what’s best for her classmates’ love lives, and is determined to find the perfect boyfriend for shy sophomore Harriet by the end of the school year. But will Emma’s relentless matchmaking get in the way of finding her own happiness? Based on Jane Austen’s classic novel, this sparkling new musical features the hit songs of legendary girl groups and iconic female singers from The Supremes to Katy Perry.


Save the Date: The Cohocton Sports Booster Club, Wayland-Cohocton PTSO and the Cohocton Library are sponsoring the return of the Cohocton Easter Egg Hunt! With staggered times and an adapted event, this is sure to be a fun family day on Saturday, April 12th. Also, Keep an eye out for information about the longstanding St. Jude Benefit Bike-a-Thon that will be held on Saturday, June 7th. Cohocton Sports Booster is looking forward to making it a grand event!

Wayland-Cohocton is celebrating Autism Awareness Week, this week, March 31st to April 4th. Awareness activities have been developed by the student Inclusive Youth Leadership Club. There are bracelets for sale for $5 in the school office, which are expected to arrive on Friday. All proceeds will be donated to AutismUp in Rochester. Students are creating posters with information about Autism encouraging acceptance and inclusion. Wednesday, April 2 everyone is encouraged to wear light blue or other Autism Awareness attire. Wednesday, April 2 recognises World Autism Day.

The third grade has been working with clay and recently completed clay plate projects they will be bringing home this week. These beautiful plates are food-safe and can be placed in the microwave or oven. Ms. Stieve does recommend hand washing but hopes her students and families enjoy the incredibly useful works of art! This is National Youth Art Month!



March 21st is World Down Syndrome Day, a global awareness day which has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012. The goal is to help people understand and support those with Down syndrome better. The date being the 21st day of the 3rd month was chosen to represent the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome. Throughout the week, the Inclusive Youth Leadership Club has been sponsoring awareness activities which culminate in recognizing World Down Syndrome Day on Friday, March 21st. Wayland-Cohocton students and staff alike are encouraged to wear yellow and blue, or crazy socks to recognize the day. Want to know more, go to: World Down Syndrome #WorldDownSyndromeDay
Here are some interesting facts being shared daily at announcements in the Elementary School this week:
People with Down Syndrome can go to regular schools, make friends, enjoy life, and get jobs when they are older.
How does Down Syndrome occur? Most people have a total of 46 chromosomes, but those with Down Syndrome have an extra chromosome, bringing the total to 47.
What is a chromosome? Chromosomes determine your physical traits, such as eye color and hair color.
Down Syndrome was named after Dr. John Langdon Down, who wrote a paper about it nearly 160 years ago!
More than 400,000 people are living with Down Syndrome in the United States.

Due to a mechanical issue with the boiler system at Wayland-Cohocton, school is closed today, Friday, March 14. No staff or students should report.

Don’t forget about Kids’ Night Out on Saturday, March 15th from 4 to 8 pm. There are a number of fun activities, movies, swimming and concessions available. We are so proud of both ofa the teams! Keep reading! PageTurners members read from a list of selected books and then participate in a quiz-format competition about those books!


A reminder for families whose students are going to attend Kids’ Night Out (Grades 1-6): Please return the permission form to your child’s homeroom teacher or the office.The form was handed out in school by your child’s homeroom teacher and is due by Friday, March 7th. The organizers will try to group kids according to age and grade for planned activities and games. Groups will change every 60 minutes in the pool. (Please send a towel, suit and a bag for wet clothing with your child.)
PARENTS/GUARDIANS: All children must be checked in and marked for their safety at the beginning of the night. Drop off will be at the Performing Arts Center (PAC) entrance. In order to keep children safe and to have accountability, the adult dropping off and picking the child up must be the same person. Children should be picked up by 8 pm at the PAC entrance.
