Friday, June 12, 2020

With the school year wrapping the district is working to continue providing food security to families during this transitional time of returning to more normal lifestyles. To date, the district has distributed 61,542 meals to district families. The cafeteria staff, transportation department and administration have fine-tuned the process to an efficient operation while at the same time providing personal touches like notes, trinkets and gifts in the meal packs, hoping to bring smiles to the youngsters they are serving. So many youngsters and adults alike have greeted the team with smiles, sent thank yous, drawn pictures and left surprises at the door. It has been a wonderful way to personally connect during this challenging time.

As school prepares to wrap up for the 2019-2020 year, below is information regarding meal disbursement over the next few weeks:

  • The current Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule will continue through June 19

  • Starting June 22, deliveries will go out at 7:15 a.m. in order to beat the summer heat. Bulk, in-person pick-up will continue at St. Joseph’s parking lot in Wayland from 9 to 10 a.m. The Cohocton Elementary pick-up location will cease do to low numbers at that location.

  • The district anticipates the continuation of the feeding program through the summer but is waiting for guidance from the Governor’s office, State Education Department and Child Nutrition Program, which it expects in the next few weeks. The program may change over the summer months. Information will be provided as it is available.

  • The meal disbursement counts will be doubled on July 1 to accommodate the July 4 holiday and a day off for the meal team on July 3.

  • Once guidance has been received, the district will release the summer meal plan.

“As we near the end of the month, the district will continue to evaluate our food operation for the summer months,” said Business Administrator Mandi Harvey. “The district hopes to receive the necessary guidance in the next few weeks. The district plans to offer summer feeding, we just are unsure of the logistics right now. Please continue to check the school’s website and Facebook pages for updates.”
