Funding the Project Pie Chart

Capital Improvement Project:

$31,978,057

Funding the Project: The district's longtime commitment to careful spending and use of its reserves results in a well-maintained capital reserve fund. There will be no tax impact as a result.  If voters approve the project, the capital reserve fund will pay for 7.8% of the anticipated project costs. State building aid will pay for 92.2% of the project.

State building aid is only allocated for capital projects. It is different from the aid that is provided by the state for the general operation of school districts. The funding can only be used for capital (building) projects. If the district does not utilize the capital aid, it simply loses it.  Additionally, in this project are a number of maintenance components including roofs, additional sidewalks, windows and other infrastructure items. If these items are not addressed in a capital project (which receives 92% state funding), they will need to be addressed through the regular school expenditures and would then have a tax impact. It makes sense to utilize the funding where the greatest aid is possible and there is no impact to taxpayers.
