We hope the 2023-2024 school year has been a positive experience for your children so far. By now you’ve most likely noticed a change from previous years in our academic calendar to address our professional development schedule. Wayland-Cohocton is returning to early dismissals, instead of late arrivals, for professional development days, many of which fall on Wednesdays.

On Wednesday, October 4th, there will be an early dismissal for all students to allow for professional development time. The following dismissal times will be observed:

  • PreK 3 Students: Dismissed at 11:30 a.m.
  • PreK 4 Students: Dismissed at Noon
  • Elementary School: Dismissed at 12:30 p.m.
  • Middle School: Dismissed at 11:30 a.m.
  • High School: Dismissed at 11:30 a.m.

Students attending full-day programs at locations other than the Wayland-Cohocton campuses will follow their routine schedules. High School students who are at BOCES CTE programs in the morning will arrive back at campus, by bus, in time to ride the 12:30 p.m. run home. High School students who attend CTE BOCES programs in the afternoon will be able to attend their regular programs, via busing. Afternoon BOCES students who normally ride the bus home at the end of the day, will be transported home when they return from BOCES.

Dismissal procedures will remain the same. For Prekindergarten and Elementary students, the same afternoon transportation or parent pick-up arrangements will be followed. Any changes to your child’s normal dismissal procedure must be made in writing with a note prior to 9:45 a.m. For the safety of our students, we cannot honor any changes submitted after the 9:45 a.m. deadline. At the Elementary School, all parent pick-up will take place at the end of the Kindergarten wing near the playground. Families should join the car line (which sometimes extends around the bus garage), and children will be dismissed from the Kindergarten wing at 12:30 p.m. Prekindergarten students will follow the routine pickup procedures for that building as well. Please remember that if you have someone different picking up your child than the usual pick up person, the district must have the necessary consent ahead of time.

Breakfast will be available on Wednesday, October 4th in all buildings. All students will be offered the opportunity to order a bagged lunch, which includes a sandwich, fruit and a beverage. Students scheduled during early lunch periods will have the opportunity to eat their lunch in the cafeterias, those with later lunch periods who ordered a bagged lunch will pick up their bagged lunches before leaving for the day. As always, please feel free to reach out to faculty and staff or any of the building offices with any questions or concerns you may have.
