Dear Wayland-Cohocton Central School District Families and Community Members,

I am writing today out of care and concern for our school community following a recent incident at an athletic event involving inappropriate and disrespectful behavior directed toward our athletic coordinator, supervisors, other students, and referees. This behavior is deeply troubling and does not reflect the values of the Wayland-Cohocton Central School District or our community.

Our staff, volunteers, and officials dedicate their time and energy to supporting students and providing safe, positive experiences. They deserve to be treated with respect and professionalism. While questions or concerns may arise, personal attacks, intimidation, and public confrontation are never acceptable and will not be tolerated.

We also hold our student-athletes to the highest standards of sportsmanship and character. As representatives of our school and community, our athletes are expected to model respectful behavior, self-control, and integrity at all times.

We must remember that we are all on the same team, your child’s team. Every adult in this district is working toward a shared goal: helping students grow, learn, and succeed both academically and through extracurricular opportunities. Maintaining a safe, respectful, and positive environment at all events is essential to achieving that goal.

If there is ever a genuine concern or issue, I encourage you to address it through the appropriate channels by contacting your child’s coach, building administrator, athletic coordinator, or the district office. We are always willing to listen and work collaboratively toward a solution.

Thank you for your continued support of our students, our staff, and our schools. Together, we can model the respect, responsibility, and sportsmanship we expect from our children.

Respectfully,
Eileen Feinman, Ed.D.
Superintendent
