Will Jablonka

Wayland-Cohocton Board of Education appointed Will Jablonka to the Board of Education to serve the vacancy created by the summer resignation of Michael Heiman. Mr. Jablonka will serve through June 30th, 2022.

“On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Will for being willing to step into the role vacated by Mike Heiman,” said Board President Rich Rizzieri. “Mike left big shoes to fill and I have found Will eager to get familiar with the guidelines set forth by the State Ed Department, and expect he will get acclimated quickly. We look forward to his input and participation in managing Board Policy going forward.”

After Mr. Heiman’s resignation, the Board encouraged individuals to submit letters of interest to fill the vacancy and ultimately, the Board selected Mr. Jablonka to fill the balance for this academic year. In order to serve beyond that time, Mr. Jablonka will have to run for office during the annual May school elections.

Mr. Jablonka has lived in Cohocton for 18 years with his wife and two children, who attend Wayland-Cohocton Middle School. He has coached Little League baseball and summer soccer. Mr. Jablonka has actively attended Board of Education meetings and says his interest in becoming a board member is rooted in a couple of things including “conversations with other parents and wanting to gain more knowledge on how decisions are made.”

“My reason for joining the board is simply to be part of those decisions and pursue what I feel is best for my children, and the success of every child in our district,” he said. “The biggest challenge, I feel for our school, is the interaction and communication between the district staff and parents. Please come to the Board meetings and share concerns and thoughts.”

Michael Heiman served two full terms on the Board of Education. He completed the first of a five-year term before resigning for personal reasons.
