Family Swim Tonight

A group of WC students traveled to Innovative Field in Rochester to spend the day learning about the wide array of choices of careers for people interested in athletics, sports and related careers. Unfortunately, Mother Nature did not cooperate and the Red Wings game they were hoping to see was rained out after one inning. The panel of speakers included: Kyle Stitch (AFP Tax/AFP Analytics, Director of Operations, Jeff Cogan, Associate Executive Director of YMCA, Karen Iglesia, Founder Primetime 585, Kathy Hoyt, Executive Director of Section V Athletics, Camaron Johnson, Executive Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics of Rochester City School District, Chad Condidorio, Chief of UR Medicine Sports and Spine Rehabilitation; Paul Hemingway, Director of Experiential Learning & Outreach / Instructor, Sports Management, Sg. John Fisher University.

Wayland-Cohocton families are reminded that the PTSO is hosting Shawna Has A Secret - an interactive educational training for adults 21 and older on Thursday, 18th, 6 pm, in the LGI, Come and check out Shawna’s bedroom and learn ways that drugs and related paraphernalia can be hidden in plain sight. We will discuss warning signs and ways we can help youth.

Earth Science Teacher Miss Kreppel has prepared some information for families about the highly anticipated eclipse on Monday, April 8th. The information includes links to area events and related educational information as well as worksheets (both completed and blank) so that students (and adults) can record their observations of the event. Printable forms have also been emailed home to families.

Earth Science Teacher Miss Kreppel hosted fun eclipse learning sessions 13th period every Tuesday during March for middle and high school students. Each activity included related lessons and fun craft activity to demonstrate the various principles associated with the eclipse. Students were given eclipse glasses and had a great time learning. The last activity was demonstrating various phases of the eclipse using Oreos! Yes, Oreos!

Wayland-Cohocton Elementary Third and Fourth Grade Chorus rehearsal will not be held on Thursday, March 28th. No students should report for rehearsal.

Congratulations to Middle School students Brooklyn Patterson, Aila Knox, Emma Delaney, Anna Curran! These young artists have had work selected to be displayed in the 2024 NYSATA Region 2 Student Art Exhibit at the Roberts Wesleyan Davison Gallery. The work will be displayed March 21st to March 30th. An opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Davison Gallery located in the Roberts Cultural Life Center. Wayland-Cohocton is celebrating National Youth Art Month and will post pictures of students and their creative endeavors throughout March.

Elementary Art students with Mrs. Stieve wrapped up a clay heart project. After finishing the project, the students take time to reflect on their work through a guided worksheet. This helps young learners process what skills they are mastering while having fun creating beautiful art. It is an important part of the learning process. Wayland-Cohocton is celebrating National Youth Art Month and will post pictures of students and their creative endeavors throughout March.

Miss Kreppel is hosting a Solar Eclipse Science Club on Tuesdays for students to prep for the big event. Activities are meant to help students understand the event and have a thorough understanding of what is happening, while also having fun. Each week there is a story, experiment and arts and crafts - plus, just getting together to talk science is super cool!

Mrs. Bauman’s Studio in Art students are highly focused while working on their projects. Studio is an introductory course that teaches the fundamentals of drawing and design while providing the opportunity to explore many different art media. Students engage in various class projects that may include drawing, printing, ceramics and painting. Wayland-Cohocton is celebrating National Youth Art Month and will post pictures of students and their creative endeavors throughout March.

Attention middle school families: Registrations for modified spring sports are now open! For those interested in registering current 7th and 8th grade student-athletes for baseball, softball, track and field, and tennis please visit our athletic page and go to "athletics team registration." Once here you can either access an existing account or create a new one to register your child. We look forward to seeing new registrations come in and for our rosters to fill up soon. Go Eagles!

If you are a family in the Wayland-Cohocton District considering enrolling in any of the prekindergarten programs at Wayland-Cohocton Prekindergarten School in Cohocton, this event will help provide additional information. This event is intended for adults.

WCCS Update (March 1st): After clearing a portion of the building that was slated to be used for the All-County Music Festival today, Wayland-Cohocton is continuing with that scheduled event. Thank you.

Thank you to everyone for your patience this morning during the electrical issues at Wayland-Cohocton. Power was restored, however the brown out did cause some damage to the building necessitating the canceling of classes. We appreciate your understanding. Thank you and have a good weekend.

After consulting with the power company, unfortunately they cannot give us a time frame as to when power will be restored and as a result we are calling an emergency day. Middle school students will be given breakfast and then Middle and high Students will be released to the buses at 8:30 am. If you would prefer to pick up your student please come to the middle school or high school office to pick up your student. If your middle school child should not be dropped off at home, please contact the middle school office as soon as possible. There will be no elementary or prekindergarten classes today either.

Wayland-Cohocton Middle School students are entering the building. Fifth and sixth grade will go to the cafeteria and seventh and eighth grade will go to the gymnasium. Buses have not gone out for the elementary school. We will continue to update you as we have more informstion regarding elementary school.
