Check out these incredibly imaginative works of ink blot art created by second, third and fourth grade students under the guidance of Elementary Art Teacher Mrs. Stieve. These works represented some very creative interpretations of what the students saw in the inkblots. Look closely at how they used their skills to create intricate and detailed works of art. Incredible. Mrs. Stieve has a few display boards in the elementary lobby and students love to stop and see their work and the work of their peers displayed. It is wonderful to hear the students talk about the works with advanced and relative vocabulary! Remember, it's Youth Art Month!

This month’s agriculture lesson was wiggly and dirty! Mrs. McKinley, Cornell Cooperative Extension Ag in the Classroom Educator, visited to chat with first graders about composting and worms. As she read the story and asked questions, students appeared well-informed using words like composting, decomposition, and nutrients! Mrs. McKinley brought working worms with her along with flashlights and magnifiers so that students could study the little pile of humus and worms placed on a paper plate. The young learners looked for the worms and their eggs, and even discovered some other healthy critters. It was an exciting lesson!

Reading the story about composting. Did you know that the worms don't really care for chicken nuggets or cheese?!
Learning about the worms' work and how to carefully handle the worms so that they can go back to work after being studied.
EXCITING!

Fifth Grader Sabino Matarazzo is being celebrated as a Middle School Artist of Excellence. Middle School Art Teacher Mrs. Fraim says, “Sabino uses the studio habit of mind envision to release his imagination and create figures in action.” His characters explore worlds and tell stories. Sabino is engaged and persists outside of school art studio and envelope craft with practice and his own set of artist grade graphite. “He is truly an artist of excellence and in fifth grade has already started building an impressive portfolio of artwork,” adds Mrs. Fraim. Mrs. Fraim also points out that one of Sabino’s pieces also tied nicely into kindness week celebrated at Wayland-Cohocton as one of his highlighted projects, a kindness balloon, is based on the artist Bansky,

You may notice yellow and orange cones around campus. They are not decorations. They are part of our daily safety plan. Cones in the Wayland bus loop are there to prevent cars from driving around stopped buses, forming multiple lanes, and creating dangerous situations for students and staff. Please remember that the loop is buses only from 7 to 9:30 am and 2 to 4:30 pm.

STOP SIGNS at crosswalks on campus must be observed.

If you are picking up or dropping off, please use designated parking lots, especially for afterschool activities. Do not move or remove cones on either campus. They are placed intentionally to protect students.

There have also been an alarming number of reports of vehicles passing stopped school buses, including in the opposite lane on our community roads. This puts children at serious risk as they head out to school in the morning and return home in the afternoon.. Please stay alert on village streets and rural roads alike. Thank you for helping us keep every student safe.
